Simple changes or additions to your existing décor to bring the feeling of the fall season into your home, takes minimal creativity. It is not necessary to make store purchases, but using what you have with a few new pieces can make the changes feel more substantial.
In your living space, add a few fall colored pillows to your couches. Teal is a really hot color this year. A splash of color like teal with the traditional fall colors offers a unique and personal twist this season.
For the dining area, consider placing a table runner over the back of the host/hostess chairs. It can be secured to the chair by tying a coordinating bow around the back of the chair. Again include teal or maybe bright orange as the bow and/or the table cloth and then incorporate fall colors with placemats, chair cushions, napkins, glasses, vases, candles or floral arrangement.
Another option is to sew two strips of grosgrain or other ribbon along the top and bottom of a placemat. Repeat this for a second placemat. Then tie them together on one side, slide down over the top of the chair and then tie the bottom together. This will only work if you have a chair that has openings across the back.
Finally, purchase all one color or coordinating colored standard pillow cases. Slide the pillow case over the back of the chair. Then add a decorative dish towel, napkin, or other decorative linen over the top that adds color and some contrast. Secure both the pillowcase and decorative linen with a big bow, a simple ribbon, raffia, or whatever fits the ambiance you are creating.
