The school year is ending and summer is beginning. The kids will be home and will be thrilled to relax for a bit. Before you know it…. “Mom, I’m bored!”
So what are you going to do with the kids?
Here are some tips:
-
Keep a schedule. Kids crave schedules and when they know what to expect, they’re less likely to misbehave. So, continue with a bed time ritual, continue with a set time to wake and certain set activities.
-
Set activities
-
Keep kids occupied and learning by setting regular activities/requirements such as reading time and educational videos. My kids will also be required to complete a few chores each day such as watering the plants.
-
Craft Days
-
Hobby Lobby often has great specials on craft items, so it’s easy to gather many craft items at a reasonable cost.
-
Water fun
-
Temporary Pool. We got an inexpensive pool for the backyard. While it does require chemicals similar to larger pools, with a cover on it, it takes less effort than we first thought.
-
Sprinklers. When we are watering the lawn, my girls will play in the sprinkler, so it’s a win-win. The lawn is watered and the kids have fun.
-
Story Time
-
Younger children will enjoy story time at your local library.
-
Movies
-
Cinemark and other theatres offer kid-friendly movies for an inexpensive price. Check your local theatre’s website for info.
-
Camps
-
There are plenty of summer camps…
-
Workshops
-
Lowes and Home Depot both offer free workshops. Check with your local store for the particular activities, dates and times.
-
Play groups
Many moms get overwhelmed when summer hits, but there are more options out there than they may realize. What are you planning on doing with your kids this summer?
