Celebrate Memorial Day with family and friends!

Memorial Day is a remembrance day to celebrate the men and woman who have passed while fighting for our country.

Here are a few fun arts & crafts activities to share on Memorial Day with the kids, while remembering these heroes:

Activity 1:  American Flag

~ Materials Needed:

  • long white heavy paper sheet/construction paper
  • red and blue paint
  • kids hands and feet
  • pencil
  • ruler
  • silver glitter

~ Instructions:

  • With a ruler and pencil make a rectangle on the upper left hand side of the paper (this will be used to hand print stars).
  • Place rotating handprints in blue paint in even rows to represent starts in the rectangle.
  • Optional: Sprinkle silver glitter over blue handprints while paint is wet.
  • With the ruler and pencil draw 5 straight lines across from left to right starting at the top (this will be used to make blue stripes with child’s feet).
  • Place red footprints on the straight lines drawn to create stripes.  In between the red footprints there should be a white space representing the white lines on the flag.

Activity 2:  Noise Maker

~ Materials Needed:

  • two paper plates
  • red and blue paint
  • paint brushes
  • white paper streamers
  • glue
  • star stickers
  • rice or anything small that will make noise when shaken

~ Instructions:

  • Paint one plate red and one blue on the outside.
  • Add rice or noise materials on one of the plates, then glue on the other plate together to seal the rice inside the two plates.
  • Cut small white streamers and glue around the red side of the plate.
  • Stick star stickers on blue side of the plate.

I hope everyone has a wonderful Memorial Day with family and friends!
